Avivo to train adults for high-demand careers in Solar PV Installation

Avivo announces a new Solar PV (Photovoltaic) Installation Training program, launched in collaboration with partners Midwest Renewable Energy Association and the City of Minneapolis. This training program will equip eligible students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the high-demand field of solar energy installation and maintenance.

“Entry-level jobs in the Solar PV Installation career field include life-changing salaries of $45,000 to even $60,000 per year,” shares LaCresia King Lennick, program director at the Avivo Institute of Career & Technical Education. “And what’s even more exciting is that demand for experienced installers in the field is only growing after the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and its included solar tax credits.”

LaCresia shares that Avivo’s Solar PV Installation training program will be available at no cost for eligible students, and Avivo is actively recruiting individuals from low-income backgrounds and underserved communities – with a specific focus on black, Indigenous and people of color.

“We are actively working to undo systemic racism in our community and assisting lower-income individuals and people of color in entering this high wage career path is one step in accomplishing that goal,” shares LaCresia.

The curriculum combines classroom learning with hands-on experience to ensure graduates are job-ready upon graduation. Students will learn about concepts such as working with electricity, basic photovoltaics, PV site assessment, PV system design, and PV design and scenarios. Upon graduation, they will be prepared to take and pass the NABCEP Photovoltaic Installation Professional Certification Exam.

Avivo’s commitment to student success extends beyond the classroom and graduation. Leading up to graduation, students will have access to Avivo’s career counselors and mobility mentors, who offer support in job searches and mentorship in various areas, including financial management, family stability and mental health resources.

LaCresia believes that by empowering individuals with solar PV installation skills, Avivo is opening doors to lucrative and sustainable career opportunities while fostering a diverse and resilient workforce.
