Linda reaches recovery and rebuilds trust with her family
“If it wasn’t for this program and what they’ve done for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” shares Linda. Linda came to Avivo in May of 2014. She was addicted to meth and looking at prison time. Since that day in May, Linda has completed treatment and reached recovery, renewed relationships with her family, and is working in the recovery field herself.
“I first learned about Avivo from one of my acquaintances who was [at Avivo],” she shares. “It sounded perfect because you could still move around, go to groups, and it wasn’t like a locked facility. When I got in, everything changed… Avivo changed my life.”

When she first entered treatment, Linda stayed in Avivo’s singles housing, and her daughter visited on the weekends. Her mom participated in family activities and classes with her as well, but she knew she still had work to do to earn the trust of her son.
“I truly believe Avivo’s program was my stepping stone to a better life and to repairing my relationships with my kids. Now I have a wonderful relationship with them. They trust me. They know they can rely on me. It took a long time to build that.”
Linda believes that the housing paired with treatment at Avivo was important to her recovery and was thankful for the housing not only during treatment, but Avivo’s support in helping her find an apartment after treatment as well.
“Avivo is unique,” shares Linda. “There’s housing, the family program, career development. I even got my soldering technician license through here. I didn’t end up going that route, but the opportunities were there.”

More than 10 years into her recovery, Linda shares that now she works as an intake coordinator for a recovery organization herself, helping people who are in a similar situation to where she once was.
“I’m saving lives on the phone. I can hear it in people’s voices when they need help. I can relate to them. I think that’s why I bring a lot of people in.”
Looking ahead, it’s challenging for Linda to think of hopes or dreams, because her biggest was to rebuild relationships and trust with her family, which she’s worked hard at and accomplished.
“I feel like I’m kind of living the dream now. Life is still hard, even sober, but I’m happy. I’m happy with my kids and my family.”
