Micheal’s Story
Micheal is a military veteran, and struggled to find steady employment after serving in the Vietnam War. Seven years ago he decided to make a change to his life, and was referred by the VA to Avivo Institute of Career and Technical Education’s Maintenance Custodial Skills Training Program. He graduated and was quickly hired in building facilities maintenance.
“I was pretty lucky to find Avivo.”
Micheal felt confident when applying for building maintenance positions because he’d learned quite a bit about the finer details of facilities maintenance. He had also worked with Avivo staff to perfect his resume – including emphasizing his relevant credentials.
“I learned a lot of different things [in training], but mainly I learned that there’s a lot more to this job than people think,” Micheal says.
“Being hired at my age … it’s like a second chance. I’m glad Avivo was around.”
Since he graduated and started working, Micheal’s seen his quality of life improve. “Being hired at my age … it’s like a second chance. I’m glad Avivo was around.”
