Avivo’s volunteer program creates record-setting impact in 2022
Avivo’s volunteer program saw an incredible leap in the number of volunteers and the number of hours worked last year! More than 1,400 volunteers gave nearly 18,000 hours of their time, a 60 percent increase from 2021.

“This is huge for Avivo,” shares Brittany Biggers, Avivo director of volunteer services. “That increase in volunteer hours allows precious resources at Avivo to go toward supporting those in need.”
Meetinghouse Church was one of the most prolific in volunteering time, with members of Meetinghouse giving more than 500 hours of their time, saving Avivo more than $17,000 in labor costs. They supported Avivo Village by purchasing and assembling new resident baskets, providing pies for holidays, and providing holiday gifts to all 100 Avivo Village residents.
Other volunteer groups, such as Target, also made significant contributions. Target corporate volunteers (as well as nearly a dozen Target store volunteers) gave nearly 300 hours of their time, as well as important in-kind donations. Volunteers completed projects across the organization, including general landscaping, building furniture, supporting fundraising efforts, and supporting Adopt-A-Family.
Andersen Windows & Doors partnered with Avivo and HandsOn Twin Cities to donate nearly 60 pro bono hours in 2022 to support Avivo’s Communications team to evaluate analytics on Avivo’s website. This is helping Avivo reach more prospective participants, partners, donors and volunteers.

Brittany shares that Avivo’s in-kind donation program also saw significant growth, with a roughly 10 percent increase in the number of donations and in the number of donors helping make an impact in the lives of participants in Avivo’s programs:
- Greater Twin Cities United Way donated more than 800 backpacks full of school supplies for children of Avivo’s program participants.
- The Drawer, a local non-profit, provided nearly 1,700 pairs of socks and 1,200 pairs of underwear.
- The North Loop Neighborhood Association held a donation drive collecting 500 personal items for new Avivo Village residents and individuals moving on to permanent housing.
- Plymouth Congregational Church provided move-in kits for 40 new units at the Lydia Apartments.
The dedication and generosity of Avivo’s volunteers and in-kind donors help Avivo to provide essential support to individuals and families in need and expand Avivo’s reach and community impact.
