Bailey finds treatment success at Avivo

When Bailey heard about Avivo and that mothers could enter treatment with their children, ages 0-17, she thought the program might be a good match for her. Now, after graduating from Avivo’s treatment programs, she’s given birth to a healthy baby boy and is reunited with her daughter and boyfriend.

Bailey’s addiction started while she was in high school. At age 17 she started using hard drugs. She’d been a high school athlete, playing for her school’s basketball team.

“I stopped playing basketball when I started doing heroin,” says Bailey. “Then I dropped out of high school.”

Her drug use continued after leaving school, and Bailey’s life went further down a negative path; eventually leading to criminal offenses and even jail time. She was “in and out of jail” during that time, yet managed to get her GED.

Bailey says it was one particular jail time that changed her mindset. “I tried to change my thinking,” says Bailey. “I got out [of jail] and stayed sober, and I wanted to get into treatment.”

Bailey wanted to spend time with her children, and her boyfriend was battling addiction as well. They entered treatment at the same time. Her boyfriend enrolled in another local program. Avivo staff helped Bailey reunite with her daughter while in treatment.

“Avivo has been able to provide me with safe housing for my family, while I come and get my feet back underneath me … “I can’t speak higher of Avivo. There are really no programs like this.”

“Avivo has been able to provide me with safe housing for my family, while I come and get my feet back underneath me,” says Bailey. “I’ve also had the freedom to work closely with my significant other. [Avivo offers] this agreement where we can work together to kind of blend in as a family, which is pretty cool.”

Bailey and her boyfriend recently graduated from their respective treatment programs, and their family is moving into a home together. Bailey is looking into college classes and is working with Avivo career counselors to find a job.

“I can’t speak higher of Avivo. There are really no programs like this,” says Bailey. “I’m excited to start my life.”
